What happens when a teen taps SOS

Haven's SOS is built so a teen is never left waiting with no next step.

  1. The teen taps SOSFree for every teen, with or without a paid plan.
  2. Every on-duty counselor is alertedAll at once, so the first available counselor can respond.
  3. The first to accept takes the callHaven locks the request so two counselors never answer the same teen. Others see it was taken.
  4. No answer in 45 seconds?The teen sees one-tap options: call 988, text 988, or call 911 if in immediate danger.

The teen can also tap Call 988 or Text 988 at any time while they wait. If no counselor is on duty at all, Haven says so right away.

If a counselor can't pick up in time, Haven doesn't leave the teen waiting. It shows the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline and 911 right on the screen.

Haven is not an emergency service

Haven can't send help to a location and doesn't replace 911. If someone is in immediate danger, call 911. For crisis support, call or text 988.
